The Super 8 Ladies Cup brought together some of the region's leading women's teams in a competition designed not only to promote football excellence but also to provide a platform for empowerment, networking and exposure for female players.
Over two days, the tournament showcased the growing depth and quality of women's football at the Coast, with teams displaying determination, discipline and technical ability in equal measure.
Having successfully negotiated the group stages, Equity Queens entered the knockout rounds as one of the tournament's standout performers.
Their semi-final clash against Technical University of Mombasa (TUM) proved to be a tightly contested affair, with little separating the two sides.
Equity, however, found the breakthrough they needed and held firm defensively to secure a narrow 1-0 victory and book their place in the final.
TUM's journey to the semi-finals had been equally impressive. The students demonstrated resilience and tactical discipline throughout the group phase after dispatching Ballers FC and holding ProActive Legends to a draw.
In the second semi-final, ProActive Legends and Changamwe Ladies battled to a 0-0 draw in a match characterized by defensive organization and limited scoring opportunities.
With neither side able to find a winning goal during regulation time, the contest was decided through penalties. PAL showed composure from the spot to overcome Changamwe Ladies and advance to the final.
Both PAL and Changamwe Ladies had impressed during the group stages.
Changamwe Ladies carried momentum into the knockout rounds after a series of strong performances that had them secure a draw against Equity and a win over Veterans FC, while PAL had topped group B.
Their semi-final meeting was a fitting reflection of the fine margins that often define tournament football.
The final between Equity Queens and PAL lived up to expectations, pitting two of the competition's most consistent teams against each other.
With the title at stake, both sides approached the encounter cautiously, prioritizing defensive solidity while looking for opportunities on the counterattack.
Chances were few and far between as both teams remained disciplined and organized throughout the contest.
Despite their best efforts, neither side could find a breakthrough, sending the championship match to penalties.
In the decisive shootout, Equity Queens demonstrated remarkable composure under pressure, converting their opportunities to overcome a spirited PAL side and claim the 2026 Super 8 Ladies Cup crown.
For PAL, the runners-up finish was a reward for an outstanding tournament campaign that saw them overcome difficult opposition and display tremendous character on their route to the final.
As the curtains came down on another successful edition of the Super 8 Ladies Cup, the tournament once again highlighted the progress being made in women's football.
Beyond the results and trophies, the competition served as a celebration of talent, opportunity and the continued growth of the women's game, providing players with a valuable stage on which to showcase their abilities and inspire the next generation of footballers.
For Equity Queens, however, the final word belonged to them. After two days of hard-fought football and a nerve-racking penalty shootout in the final, they stood tall as the 2026 Super 8 Ladies Cup champions.
