Vyner had been one of the Championship players in high demand in the just-concluded transfer window and a subject of transfer gossip in England.

This follows the 28-year-old’s solid performances and impressive 2024/25 season at the heart of The Robins’ defense.

Vyner’s performances attracted the interest of two Championship clubs, but Bristol City were adamant to let the Kenyan leave, even if for Ksh875 million, at least according to Sky Sports News.

“Wrexham and Birmingham have been told Zak Vyner is not for sale by Bristol City at any price – even £5m (approximately Ksh875 million).

The player is relaxed about the situation and is enjoying his football under Gerhard Struber,” read part of the statement from the British media and telecommunications conglomerate on Monday, 1 September.

Earlier in the transfer window, Vyner had also been linked with a move to Derby County, but their £1m (approximately Ksh151 million) was rejected by Bristol City, as reported by Eflanalysis

In the end, Bristol were able to retain the centre back for at least another season as they eye promotion to the English Premier League (EPL), even as Vyner is expected to attract even more interest from January 2026.

“He is already in the final year of his contract and could be an attractive free agent next summer,” the statement concluded.

The lanky centre back was one of only six players who played every minute in the 2024/25 Championship season; three of whom were from Bristol.

Vyner, who can also play as a right back and defensive midfielder, added another 180 minutes as Bristol City suffered a two-legged Championship Promotion Playoff defeat to Sheffield United last season.

The defender has picked up from where he left last season and has played every minute of Bristol City's six matches so far this season; four in the Championship and two in the Carabao Cup.

After four league matches, Bristol City are fourth on the championship table with eight points, four shy of league leaders Middlesbrough, who are yet to drop a point this season.
