Harambee Stars midfield prospect Eliot Matazo returned to action on Tuesday following a year-long absence due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury, though Hull City plan to reintegrate him into first-team football gradually.

Matazo played 30 minutes for Hull’s Under-21 side in their 3-2 Premier Development League win over Peterborough United. Another promising talent, Sammy Henia-Kamau, who has been a regular in the U21 setup this season, was notably absent from the matchday squad.
The 24-year-old had been sidelined since rupturing his ACL against Cardiff City in February 2025, less than five weeks after joining from French giants AS Monaco.
Hull are taking a cautious approach to Matazo’s comeback, mindful of setbacks experienced by Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi after similar ACL injuries. While Matazo’s return is a welcome boost as the Tigers pursue promotion to the Premier League, patience remains key to ensure a full recovery.
Hull assistant manager Dean Holden confirmed last week that Matazo had resumed training, describing his progress as positive despite no firm return date to first-team action.
“Eliot’s been in and around team training for the last couple of days,” Holden said. “It’s been a long-term injury, so he’s just finding his feet, literally. It’s about building up his fitness. He’s been away for a period, but he’s moving in the right direction.”
Ian Otieno
Meanwhile, other Kenya internationals were active across various leagues. In South Africa, goalkeeper Ian Otieno started as Richards Bay stunned Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 in a Premier Soccer League match, with Thulani Gumede scoring the decisive goal in the 69th minute.
Vincent Harper & Clarke Oduor
In England, Vincent Harper started and played 68 minutes for Walsall, who lost 1-0 at home to Fleetwood. Clarke Oduor missed out on the matchday squad as Grimsby Town defeated Salford 3-1 in an English League Two game on Tuesday night.
Zech Obiero
Still in League Two, Zech Obiero started for Tranmere Rovers and was substituted in stoppage time as his team fell 3-1 away to Newport FC.
