Inter Milan were struggling to take control of their Serie A match at Parma, but the former Chilian star Alexis Sanchez made the difference for the Nerazzuri
Inter are marching towards their first league title after a decade-long drought after a hard-fought 2-1 win in Parma.
They had a nice chance to increase their lead at the top of Serie A table on Thursday night after their biggest rivals AC Milan dropped points against Udinese the previous night. Perhaps they expected the trip to Parma to be an easy one, but they would find out that there will be nothing gifted to them at Stadio Ennio Tardini.
But former Barcelona, Arsenal and Manchester United man Alexis Sanchez turned up to break down the hosts and score two goals in space of just eight minutes. For the pair of strikes he showed desire to get the ball and make the difference for Antonio Conte’s title-chasers. The second goal in particular will have delighted Inter fans as Romelu Lukaku turned provider for the Chilean to double the lead.
Parma boss Roberto D’Aversa drilled his team well and they never gave up despite being two goals behind. They kept going and halved the deficit with a well-worked goal and a classy volleyed finish from the Brazilian midfielder Hernani Azevedo Junior with 20 minutes left.
The Serie A leaders had a couple of late chances to wrap the game up, but they were left to sweat until the end. The final whistle brought big celebrations from the black and blues of Milan who made another step to the Scudetto. It wasn’t pretty, their win wasn’t pretty to watch, but it’s the manner of winning that will suit Conte just fine. They are three points closer to their goal.
