Donnarumma 2.0 in making: Milan could lose Maignan the same way

The Rossoneri could see the same scenario as with the current Manchester City goalkeeper, who left them four years ago
History may be about to repeat itself in the red-and-black half of Milan. In recent years the Rossoneri have let priceless talent slip away for nothing - Franck Kessie, Hakan Calhanoglu, and Gianluigi Donnarumma all left at the end of their contracts, leaving the seven-time European champions empty-handed. And now, Mike Maignan could be the next name added to that painful list.
The French goalkeeper, captain and leader, is in the final year of his deal. According to transfer insider Matteo Moretto, the chances of a renewal are "very, very low." His latest video analysis leaves little room for optimism:
"The feeling is that this could be his last year at Milan. Negotiations are frozen, maybe even blocked."
The story is bitter. Back in February, Milan reached a verbal agreement with Maignan for an extension until 2028, with an improved salary package. But then came delays, doubts, and excuses - sporting and economic. Disappointed, Maignan listened to offers in the summer and even welcomed a call from Stamford Bridge. Chelsea tried, but their bid was an insult to Milan, and was immediately rejected.
So Maignan stayed. Massimiliano Allegri, upon arriving at San Siro, gave him the captain's armband. A gesture of faith. But not enough to secure his future.
"The relationship between Milan and Maignan's camp is cold," Moretto explained. "Whether in January for a reduced fee or in June as a free agent, his departure looks more and more likely."
And while the Rossoneri faithful tremble at the thought of losing another pillar, the club is already scanning the market. Among the names: Elia Caprile (Cagliari), Zion Suzuki (Parma), and Guillaume Restes (Toulouse).
The clock is ticking. Milan faces the risk of losing its guardian of San Siro for nothing - again.
