Do Toffees melt in the Slottage time, too?

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 20.09.25. | 09:51

We're about to witness the early Merseyside Derby this Saturday (2.30 pm) and Everton fans might be pretty worried after Liverpool's previous five games

They will run out of luck sooner or later, right? It can't go on like that throughout the entire season... or? Those must be the questions running through the heads of Everton fans in the hours before the next, 247th Merseyside Derby, that is about to kick off at Anfield this Saturday (2.30 pm), in the opening game of the Premier League matchday 5.

Led by their iconic boss, David Moyes, the Toffees have had a decent EPL campaign so far, sitting in sixth place with seven points, which is probably the most Evertonian outcome you can get - close to the top, but still flirting with a mid-table life.

Moreover, the blue side of Liverpool has witnessed an astonishing and unexpected resurrection of Jack Grealish this season. The Manchester City midfielder on loan proved he's still capable of delivering immaculate performances and earning himself a few Man of the Match displays. The clash against the Reds will surely be Grealish's most significant challenge thus far, especially in front of the Kop and Liverpool supporters.

Another excellent outing, only this time on the soil of the defending champions, would be definite proof that the old Grealish is back and ready to leave a profound impact in the Premier League.

On the other hand, as we mentioned in our headline, the Toffees are surely bothered by Liverpool's astounding streak of as many as five late victories, which is unprecedented in Europe, let alone England.

The plot is usually the same - the Reds go two goals up before blowing it away, only to seal the win with a goal in the game's dying minutes. It was like that against Bournemouth, Newcastle and, finally, even against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League a few nights ago.

The only time this scenario didn't unfold as the Scousers were hoping for was the Community Shield, when Crystal Palace were able to hold onto a 2-2 draw, bouncing back from a two-goal deficit. With no extra time, the game went to a penalty shootout, where the Eagles celebrated a surprising win. There won't be extra time or penalties today, but we reckon the Toffees would be happy with 2-2 on the scoreboard by the time of the final whistle.

And, us, the reporters? We'll enjoy another exciting Liverpool game and hope there won't be a need for a complete change of headline and intro section like the previous five times with the Reds.
