The Reds were ready to spend €100m, but the Ivorian has reportedly set his sights on Luis Enrique's project in Paris
Yan Diomande appears to have made up his mind.
Despite attracting interest from some of Europe's biggest clubs and with Liverpool previously prepared to table a package worth close to €100 million, the RB Leipzig starlet has identified Paris Saint-Germain as his preferred destination should he leave Germany in the ongoing transfer window.
Sources have told The Athletic that the 19-year-old Ivory Coast international is convinced by the sporting project being built at PSG under president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, football advisor Luis Campos and head coach Luis Enrique.
More importantly, Diomande believes the French champions offer him the ideal environment to develop into one of the world's elite footballers - and even fulfil his ambition of one day winning the Ballon d'Or.
That conviction appears to outweigh interest from elsewhere.
Liverpool have long admired the versatile winger and were willing to test Leipzig's resolve with an offer approaching €100 million. The Bundesliga club, however, refused to entertain the proposal, valuing one of Europe's brightest young talents closer to €130m while simultaneously attempting to convince him to sign a new contract.
Leipzig remains protected by the long-term deal Diomande signed after arriving from Spanish side Leganés last summer, a contract that runs until 2030. But keeping hold of the teenager may become increasingly difficult if the player himself has already set his sights on Paris.
Diomande's rise over the past year has been nothing short of spectacular.
Comfortable on either flank, the Ivorian missed just one Bundesliga match all season because of international duty, finishing the campaign with an outstanding return of 12 goals and nine assists in 33 league appearances. His performances helped Leipzig secure a third-place finish and another Champions League qualification, while simultaneously placing him among the continent's most coveted young attackers.
He is currently focused on international duty, with Ivory Coast preparing to face Norway in the World Cup Round of 32 in Arlington, Texas, on Tuesday. Yet regardless of how far the Elephants progress, his club future is expected to dominate headlines throughout the remainder of the transfer window.
Should a transfer materialise, it would become the biggest sale in RB Leipzig's history, eclipsing both Josko Gvardiol's €90m move to Manchester City in 2023 and Benjamin Sesko's €76.5m-plus-add-ons transfer to Manchester United two years later.
