The Reds managed to get 75 million for the Colombian who is going to Bayern

According to the reports from Germany, the final details have been agreed, and everything is ready for Luis Díaz (28) to head to Munich, undergo his medical, and become Bayern’s new player—also becoming the third most expensive signing in the Bavarian giant’s history. If German reports are to be believed, the deal has been completed for 75,000,000 euros, including easily achievable bonuses. This puts the Colombian behind only Harry Kane (95,000,000) and Lucas Hernandez (80,000,000) in terms of Bayern's most expensive transfers.

Multiple sources indicate that the paperwork will be exchanged and signed on Monday or Tuesday, and that Díaz will arrive at Sabener Strasse by the end of the week to sign a four-year contract and put on the Bayern jersey. What’s new in the whole story is the salary the winger will receive at his new club—it’s almost five times higher than what he earned at Liverpool. Now, it’s not an astronomical figure by today’s standards: 14,000,000 annually (gross), but it’s still a huge increase compared to what the former Porto player was making at Anfield. Reportedly, Díaz had been earning just over three million gross.

The explanation is simple. Since arriving from Portugal in 2022, he had been playing under the same terms. Although he was very important to both Klopp and Slot, bigger stars were prioritized when it came to contract negotiations and raises. Díaz didn’t push himself forward—he waited for the right offer (the first came from Barcelona, but they backed out due to the high transfer fee), informed the club that he wanted to leave, and they agreed to let him go. They didn’t make it too difficult. And to be fair, they didn’t do badly with that 75,000,000 either…

When it comes to Bayern’s salary tiers, Luis Díaz with his 14,000,000 per year won’t be in the top bracket, where Harry Kane, Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich (and Jamal Musiala, including bonuses) reside. Those four earn over 20,000,000 annually. Next come Serge Gnabry, Kingsley Coman, and Alphonso Davies with 18–19 million, followed by Leon Goretzka with 17 million euros (with bonuses), then Michael Olise (13,500,000), Kim Min-jae (12,000,000), Jonathan Tah (12,000,000), and others. If all goes according to plan, Luis Díaz is expected to debut for Bayern next Saturday in a friendly match against Lyon, German media report.
