Dennis Ng'ang'a in as Firat names team to face Gabon

Stars take on Gabon at the Stade de Franceville looking to get their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign on a positive note.

Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat has handed centre back Dennis Ng’ang’a his debut after naming the Zambia-based defender in the starting team that will face Gabon.

Ng’ang’a was handed a late call-up to the team due to the unavailability of Joseph Okumu and Brian Mandela who are nursing injuries.

He is set to partner with the Portugal-based Johnstone Omurwa at the heart of the defence with Aratat Armenia’s Amos Nondi and Kenya Police left back Abud Omar operating from the flanks.

In between the sticks will be the experienced Patrick Matasi who has been picked ahead of Ian Otieno and Bandari’s Joseph Ochuka.

Firat, as expected went for a double pivot block constituted by Anthony Akumu and Richard Odada.

The pair have been insulating the defence in most of the friendly matches Stars have played in the past FIFA international breaks.

Kenya Police creative midfielder Kenneth Muguna will be tasked with supplying ammunition to skipper Michael Olunga with Rooney Onyango and Masud Juma pulling the strings on the attacking flanks.

New boys Haniff Wesonga and Nabi Kibunguchy will start from the bench so is Gor Mahia dangerman Benson Omala.

Despite being injured, Erick’ Marcelo’ Ouma has been named on the bench.

Their CECAFA neighbours Burundi top group F of the qualifiers with three points following their 3-2 win over the Gambia in the opening game played in Tanzania.
