Huijsen spent almost three years with the Bianconeri, but never got a proper chance. CWC's last-16 tie will be just the stage he needs to show his quality
Tonight's clash between Real Madrid and Juventus (10 pm), in the FIFA Club World Cup Round of 16, won't be just another knockout game or just another derby between the two European giants.
This tie in Miami will also have its own little story as Dean Huijsen is about to face his former side, where he never got a proper chance despite being a serious talent.
Juventus sold the young Spanish international to Bournemouth last year for 16,000,000 euros plus a couple of million through bonuses. Previously, talented Huijsen joined the Bianconeri youth ranks in May 2021. In early 2023, he was promoted to Juventus Next Gen, the reserve team of Juve, before making a senior Serie A debut in October 2023.
A few days later, the club announced that Huijsen had been promoted to the first team alongside his Next Gen teammate Kenan Yildiz.
However, those in charge of the Bianconeri didn't believe in Huijsen, labelling him as a "tough character". That's why he was first sent to Roma on loan, before being sold to Bournemouth before the start of the previous season.
After a marvellous Premier League campaign, Real Madrid bought him from the Cherries for a fee of 62,500,000 euros. Tonight, he'll be rewarded with an opportunity to prove his class, and will play against his best friend and former roommate Yildiz.
