Dazzling Chelsea succumb to a dreadful draw, as Arsenal come back late from a 2-0 down

Reading Time: 3min | Sat. 21.10.23. | 21:34

The Blues were only 14 minutes away from a brilliant victory, but the derby ends in a stalemate (2-2)

What on earth was that!? Chelsea and Arsenal draw 2-2 at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night in one of the most exciting and crazy games of the Premier League season so far!

The dazzling Blues were all over the place, relentlessly fighting and flying high on the wings of their rightful two-goal lead until 14 minutes from time. And then, it all collapsed to the oblivion of the thousands of home fans and Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino in the dugout.

Two defending mistakes in less than ten minutes tarnished Chelsea's perfect display, which should have been rewarded with a massive win.

On the other hand, Mikel Arteta's slot demonstrated they're of a different ilk, never surrendering. They grab a point in a game which saw a miserable performance of theirs for the vast part of the game. Yet, the scoreboard shows more than just a draw - this Arsenal can win points, or one like tonight, even when nothing is on their side.

Straight from the kick-off, we saw impressive Chelsea, at least in terms of energy and determination, as Pochettino's squad rushed from the starting block, eager to impose their style early on.

Confident Blues, like we're not used to seeing them, knew how to confront the Gunners in a pouring rain at Stamford Bridge.

On the other hand, despite the fact this was the first time this season that Arsenal have been able to play Saka, Martinelli and Jesus together - they were simply not clicking together as they should.

The gap between the two teams became more blatant after 15 minutes, as Chris Cavanagh rewarded the hosts with a deserved penalty. In an attempt to stop Mudryk's header, Saliba handled the ball (unintentionally, but obviously), and Cole Palmer struck the ball into the bottom left corner for 1-0.

But it was not just from the spot that young Palmer taunted the visitors, as he was so close to doubling the lead before the interval. Gallagher rushed forward from midfield and sent a perfect through-ball for the former Manchester City striker, who dragged a left-foot shot just wide of the left post.

Meanwhile, Arteta's boys couldn't find corridors through Blues' lines, with Rice squandering the only promising opportunity for the North Londoners in the opening 45 minutes.

They probably hoped for a second-half redemption, but the worst was yet to come. Very soon.

Only two minutes into the second half, Mudryk was trying to make a decent cross from the left. However, the ball somehow looped over Raya and into the far corner for a shocking 2-0 lead.

At that point, the rain finally stopped, but it didn't help Arsenal to resurrect at that moment. The Gunners, though, did dominate the possession, but that was as pointless as it gets.

Up until the 76th minute, when all of a sudden, Chelsea's keeper Robert Sanchez made a horrible mistake, and Declan Rice made the most of that gift to reduce the gap to 2-1 out of the blue.

And it was just starting...

Until-then shy Saka bent a brilliant cross from the right to the far post, and Trossard punished both Malo Gusto's woeful man-marking and Sanchez's lousy positioning on the line to stun the Stamford Bridge and grab a point for the Gunners.
