Crazy revelation: Barca asked Lewandowski to stop scoring!?

... And he agreed to that, so the Catalan club wouldn't have to pay too much money to Bayern Munich

Robert Lewandowski has been scoring goals at a frightening rate ever since his 2022 arrival at Barcelona from Bayern Munich. The Polish striker struck 23 times in his debut league campaign, firing Barca to the La Liga title under Xavi Hernandez.

But according to a new book by Sebastian Staszewski, as per the Catalan newspaper Sport, the club actually asked Lewandowski to stop scoring once the title was wrapped up.

Staszewski claims a Barca board member approached the striker before the final two matches, saying:

"Robert, we need you to stop scoring goals in the last two games."

The reason? A clause in his transfer agreement. Had Lewandowski reached 25 league goals, Barcelona would have been obliged to pay Bayern Munich an additional €2.5 million!

Lewandowski did indeed finish on 23 - not a single goal in the closing two fixtures - but still secured the Pichichi Trophy as La Liga's top scorer, beating Karim Benzema to the award.
