The Polish striker has been named Player of the Year in his homeland for the 12th time

When it comes to Poland – nothing new. Robert Lewandowski has been named Footballer of the Year in his country for the 12th time. It seems that the award is given based on merit rather than the idea of 'someone else should get it this time.' After all, Lewa is truly Poland’s greatest football ambassador of the 21st century.

Although he is 36 years old, the Barcelona striker insists that he is not lacking motivation to keep playing.

"Honestly, I still have dreams I want to achieve. I hope winning this award doesn’t mean I’ve said my last word on the pitch. I’m proud of how old I am and where I am in my career. I’m very proud. Physically, I feel great, I’m not afraid of that, and my passion is still there. I enjoy every game, and I have a smile on my face while playing," Lewandowski said upon receiving the award.

He also hinted, between the lines, that he envisions ending his career in a Barcelona jersey.

"I can hardly imagine myself lifting this award again while playing for another club. I feel really good in Barcelona. Not just in the club and on the field, but also in the city, among the fans," Lewa emphasized.

The current top scorer of the Champions League has a chance tonight against Atalanta to increase his goal tally and finish as the top scorer of the regular phase of Europe's elite competition. Tonight's match is also an opportunity for Barcelona to secure a victory and hope for a slip-up from Liverpool, which would allow them to finish this stage of the competition at the top of the table.
