Coppa Italia: Relaxed Inter vs must-win Milan?
Reading Time: 2min | Wed. 02.04.25. | 17:43
While the Nerazzurri are more focused on the Serie A and the Champions League, the Rossoneri could either save the season or suffer an ultimate defeat in the Cup
Two years ago, Simone Inzaghi was on the verge of a sack at Inter Milan, and the Nerazzurri's clash against Sergio Conceicao's Porto in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 was to be or not to be for the Italian gaffer. Thanks to Andre Onana in goal, Denzel Dumfries, and occasional woodwork saved Inter and Inzaghi, and since then, the Giuseppe Meazza side's resurrection began. They won the Scudetto that season and played in the UCL final.
Now, tables have turned. While Inzaghi announces his team wants to win the treble and the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup, Conceicao's spell at AC Milan's bench is under a huge question mark. The Portuguese started his campaign with the Rossoneri with a Supercoppa trophy, but now they are in a crisis.

Interestingly, although the Nerazzurri are fighting for the Scudetto with 20 points more than their city rivals, they have yet to win the Derby della Madonnina this season, as Milan triumphed twice and Stefan de Vrij's late equalizer saved Inzaghi's crew the third time.
Still, despite the Inter boss's high expectations, he'll face the Rossoneri with almost no regular starters in the XI. Yann Sommer, Benjamin Pavard, Francesco Acerbi, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Federico Dimarco, and Marko Arnautovic will reportedly get some rest, while Dumfries, Lautaro Martinez, Mehdi Taremi, and Piotr Zielinski are injured.

Conceicao's situation is way better, though he has yet to decide who'll start in the attack, given that the recent addition, Santiago Gimenez, is injured. Tammy Abraham, Luka Jovic, and Francesco Camarda are alternatives, though none of them guarantees goals.
Whoever starts tonight can expect help from Tijjani Reijnders and Christian Pulisic, while Rafael Leao's status is still unknown, as usual.
Probably for the first time since the COVID-19 pandemic, San Siro won't be packed, as the fans are disappointed with the club's poor results. Yet, about 65,000 people tonight will expect a victory and survival in the only competition Milan have a chance to lift the trophy in.
