All Thievy Bifouma wanted was to play against the Portuguese star. That's the reason he signed for an Iranian side. But the problem is he agreed to join the wrong one
'Read the small print' is one of the best advice you can get.
However, it seems like Congolese striker Thievy Bifouma didn't even read those large letters, let alone the small ones.
The 32-year-old journeyman - who spent the vast part of his career in La Liga and in the Turkish Super Lig - revealed he made a mistake of a lifetime as he agreed on a deal with Esteghlal Khuzestan FC of Iran.
As per the player, the only reason he wanted to join them was that he thought that at some point, they would play against Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr of the Saudi Pro League. Apparently, he saw on the calendar that they were scheduled to face CR7's side in the AFC Champions League.
So, where did the problem occur?
Bifouma wasn't aware that he was approached by Esteghlal Khuzestan FC, and the team representing Iran in the AFC Champions League is Esteghlal FC. Their namesake, but not the same club!
The Congolese forward travelled to Iran and went to a hotel, but no one from his new club could find him. After several calls, Thievy finally realized that he had signed for the wrong club, much smaller and that he wouldn't be facing Cristiano after all.
Read all the letters, folks.
