Former Chelsea defender talked about that possibility for the first time

Tough times in Chelsea. The Blues are spending like they are wealthy Saudi kings but the results are not there to back it up. The fans are furious with a new ownership, the coach recently parted ways with the club and they had to appoint an unexperienced Liam Rosenior. In all competitions, Chelsea won only four times in the last 10 games (including lower league teams in the cup) and now, after a tough 1-0 win over Greek team Pafos in the Champions League, their former player dropped a bombshell. Marcel Desailly, legendary French defender and former Chelsea player (1998-2004) claimed that one of the team‘s stars, Cole Palmer, could ask to leave the club.

England international has not been the club‘s best player this season, mainly due to persistent injuries and now many fans looked worried when they saw Palmer scoring against Brentford from a penalty kick, but not celebrating. It only increased the rumors about his potential exit and then came Desailly‘s statement.

“If Cole Palmer decides to move away from Chelsea then that’s his business, but I just want him to respect the club, because they are the ones who have given him the tools to become the player he is now. I would love him to stay at Stamford Bridge because he’s got a key role in the team, even if former manager Enzo Maresca used him in various positions. I believe Palmer wants more stability and a system that’s built for him, but he still needs to fully recover from his groin injury and get back to full fitness. His recent performances speak for themselves, so he needs to stay humble and come back into the team to help the club, regardless of whether he stays or goes“ he said.

Former Chelsea defender then explained why he thinks Palmer might ask for a transfer request.

“The question is whether he feel like Chelsea are going to win the Premier League in the next two seasons. If he doesn’t, I’m sure he will ask for a transfer request to a club that will build a system around him. For now, however, he needs to hit his previous levels for Chelsea to help them and their new manager through this period“ said the Frenchman.
