Normally winners of the popular tournament bag Ksh 1 Million but the Kakamega Senator has promised an increased purse in upcoming editions

Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala has promised to raise the championship prize money of the tournament upto five million shillings should he be elected as the governor of the county in 2022.

Customarily, winners of the tournament that normally takes place in December and that seeks to nurture local talents from the Western region get to walk away with one million in cash from the politician. However, Malala has vowed to increase that sum if he makes a successful step to the governor’s office.

“Once elected governor of Kakamega county come 2022, I will ensure that I empower the youth more through sports. The cash prize for the Cleo Malala Super Cup tournament will move from one, to five million shillings,” Malala tweeted on his official page.

In this year’s tournament, the 4th edition of the annual games, there was a new champion as home backed Munami FC narrowly edged two time champions of the cup Arsenal Lirhembe 1-0 to lift their first ever Super Cup title.

Munami had held their nerves in post-match penalty shootouts as they edged Shianda All Stars 4-2 in the semis to book their place in the finals alongside Lirhembe who had dispatched Kona Rangers 1-0 in the other semifinal.

In the end though, it is Munami who got the job done courtesy of a solitary strike that presented them with the championship status and the one million cash prize.
