Cityzens hunt down Foxes, Grealish scores after 473 days

Reading Time: 3min | Wed. 02.04.25. | 23:40

Man City secured the three points already in the opening half an hour and kept the fourth place in the Premier League table - 2-0

They might have lost the title but won't give up on the Champions League spot! Easily as expected, Manchester City smashed Leicester 2-0 and kept the fourth Premier League place as well as a one-point distance from Newcastle, which were breathing down their neck.

Pep Guardiola's crew did most of the work already before the break, taking a 2-0 lead in the opening half an hour over Jack Grealish and Omar Marmoush. Later on, the match rhythm was much slower as both teams were looking forward to the ref's final whistle, so the result from the break did not change.

Many considered Etihad Stadium a bad place for Leicester to try to snatch "survival points," and they were totally right as the Foxes could say "Goodbye" to points already at the break. Moreover, even after two minutes, things were pretty clear.

It took the Cityzens 109 seconds to break the deadlock over none other than Jack Grealish, who managed to find the net for the first time since December 2023! Yet, it has to be said that Savinho did most of the work ahead of the opener.

Pep Guardiola's men continued crushing the rivals and doubled their lead in the 29th minute when Omar Marmoush scored, exploiting Mads Hermansen's massive blunder, as Leicester's custodian dropped the ball after colliding with the defender Wout Faes, allowing the Egyptian to easily pass the ball into the empty net.

The game pace was much slower after the break, as the winner was practically already determined. Ruud van Nistelrooy tried to change something with three quick subs, but it brought him nothing special. Interestingly, even though his team had a pretty convincing lead, Guardiola made his first substitution only in the 78th minute, replacing Jeremy Doku with James McAtee.

Following this victory, Man City continued their UCL race with Newcastle, Chelsea, and Aston Villa. Given that both the Magpies and the Villans won tonight, the race won't lack excitement in the final rounds of the season.
