Chelsea's hobby - Bringing players from Brighton

Reading Time: 2min | Sat. 30.08.25. | 10:53

Shortly after Tottenham "stole" Xavi Simons, the Blues turned to their favourite "shopping mall", Brighton, and brought their attacking midfielder, Facundo Buonanotte, on loan

Anytime Chelsea have a problem in the market or aren't sure what to do, they opt for their go-to move - bringing players from Brighton, as if that were their hobby.

After Robert Sanchez, Marc Cucurella, Moises Caicedo, and, most recently, Joao Pedro, the Blues went for another player from the Seagulls' ranks - Facundo Buonanotte, this time on loan.

Still, unlike the rest of the moves from Amex Stadium to Stamford Bridge, this one is rather peculiar. Namely, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder spent the previous season at Leicester City as Brighton's loanee, making 35 appearances with the Foxes and recording six goals and three assists.

He joined the Seagulls two years ago from his boyhood club Rosario Central for €6 million, played 50 games and scored five goals. Apart from Chelsea, Borussia Dortmund were reportedly interested in him, while Leeds were on the verge of signing the Argentinian.

Nevertheless, in the end, the London side managed to hijack the deal and bring Buonanotte shortly after Tottenham "stole" one of their primary targets, Xavi Simons.

Whether this move is the Blues' answer to the Dutchman's transfer remains vague, though it seems so. The move should be officially announced in the upcoming week, and Buonanotte will have a chance to debut for his new team after the international break.
