The young footballer everyone’s been talking about has finally reached an agreement with the London club

Chelsea continues to stick to the strategy introduced under new American owner Todd Boehly — signing young talents on long-term deals, often lasting five, six, seven, or even eight years. The latest move of that kind was agreed upon this afternoon and has been widely reported by nearly all major sports outlets. Jamie Bynoe-Gittens, who only recently started making waves in Borussia Dortmund’s first team, has been signed by the Blues for a staggering 64.5 milion euros!

According to some of the most reliable transfer insiders, the deal is done and will be officially announced next week, pending the winger’s medicals in London. Assuming everything goes smoothly — and there's no reason to think otherwise — Bynoe-Gittens will sign a seven-year contract with the two-time European champions. The young winger, originally from London, represents yet another masterstroke by Dortmund’s sporting department, which has now earned a combined profit of 212 milions from just three English players: Jadon Sancho, Jude Bellingham, and Jamie Bynoe-Gittens.

This latest transfer might be the most spectacular of the three, considering that unlike Sancho and Bellingham, who were signed for around 50 millions combined, Bynoe-Gittens arrived at Dortmund as a 15-year-old on a free transfer. Interestingly, the youngster actually spent some time at Chelsea when he was nine but was released and returned to Reading. He later joined Manchester City, who also let him go rather easily in September 2020.

In recent months, both Arsenal and Bayern Munich had shown interest in Bynoe-Gittens, but neither were willing to match Chelsea’s offer.

With this 64.5 millions deal, Chelsea’s total spending under Boehly — since May 2022 — will surpass 1.6 billion on transfer fees alone. That’s roughly what Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City have spent combined in the same period!

Bynoe-Gittens now becomes the third-most expensive transfer of this summer, behind only Florian Wirtz (125 millions) and Matheus Cunha (74.2 millions).
