Sichenje was handed a starting berth at St. Mary's Stadium, operating as a right wing-back in a back three system, and delivered a commanding display as Charlton fought back to claim a valuable point on the road.

The Kenyan international, who had been an unused substitute in the previous three matches since joining the club in January, seized his opportunity with both hands.

He impressed with his defensive discipline, energy, and composure, effectively containing Southampton’s attacking threats.

Jones did not hold back in his assessment of the 21-year-old’s performance.

Magnificent, to make his debut away at Southampton. To come into it without playing for a little while, he was wonderful,” Jones told the club’s website. “The supporters were magnificent for me all game. Our fans really warmed my heart today, and I thank them for that.”

Sichenje’s performance quickly won over the Addicks faithful.

Not only did supporters compose a song in his honor, but they also overwhelmingly voted him as the hero of the match.

In an online poll conducted by Charlton, Sichenje beat off competition from goalscorer Sonny Carey, midfielder Greg Docherty, and defender Lloyd Jones.

By Sunday morning, the Harambee Stars defender had garnered nearly 90 percent of the votes, a remarkable show of support for a player making his first full appearance.

The defender himself expressed delight at both the result and his contribution, while shifting focus to the next assignment.

It feels amazing to be on the pitch and help the team get a very big point for us, so it is a step to keep working and focus on Tuesday’s game,” Sichenje said after the match.

With confidence high and fan backing already secured, Sichenje will now be eyeing another strong showing, potentially in front of the home crowd when Charlton hosts West Bromwich Albion in their next fixture.
