The hosts went into the match at the bottom of Group C, while Guinea were looking to build on their 1-0 victory over Niger and maintain their perfect start.

Uganda took the lead in the 28th minute through Reagan Mpande, who was set on goal by Joel Sserunjogi.

Despite trailing, Guinea pushed hard, but lacking of cutting edge in the final third worked against their plan to draw level inside the opening stanza.

Their evening went from bad to worse when Allan Okello was tripped inside in the area in the 61st minute.

Initially, the centre referee had waved play on but a Video Assistant Referee (VAR) intervention, Uganda got a free hit which Okello expertly took.

Guinea thought they had a chance to half the deficit from the spot, in the 69th minute, when they were awarded a penalty but upon VAR review, the referee rescinded his decision.

Uganda were not yet done as Ivan Ahimbisibas, in a moment of magic, rounded the goalkeeper to slot home in the 89th minute.

Algeria still lead the group with four points, followed by Uganda and Guinea, both with three points and separated by head to head.

South Africa have a point while Niger are yet to gain a point from the tourney and face Uganda in their next match on Monday 11 August at Namboole.
