CAF Women's Champions League qualifiers set for kick off

Kenya's representatives at the competition, Vihiga Queens, will take on Zanzibar's New Generation FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium at 1 PM.
The CAF Women’s Champions League 2023 CECAFA Zone qualifiers will kick-off this afternoon with two matches set to be played at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru, Uganda.
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia FC who finished third in the Zonal qualifiers last year will face Burundi's Buja Queens in the opening match before paving way for the second match pitting Kampala Queens and Yei Joint Stars at the same venue.
Six Kenyans are in Buja Queens books and will be doing duty for the Burundian side in the qualifiers.
Vivian Corazone, Ruth Ingotsi, Topister Situma, Rachael Muema, Elizabeth Wambui, and Diana Wacera are all included in the team's roster and are set to feature this afternoon if named in the starting team.
Kenya's representatives at the competition, Vihiga Queens, will take on Zanzibar's New Generation FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium on Sunday at 1 PM. The second match will see Tanzania’s JKT Queens face As Kigali Women (Rwanda).
Queens will be hoping to reclaim the zonal title won in 2021 and a ticket to the continental competition.
The qualifiers have attracted nine teams and the best team will represent the CECAFA Zone at the CAF Women’s Champions League 2023 to be played in Côte d’Ivoire between November 5-19th.
Vihiga Queens and Simba Queens (Tanzania) have represented the Zone in the previous two CAF Women’s Champions League held in Egypt and Morocco respectively.
CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi is anticipating a competitive tournament given that the participating teams have all beefed up their squads.
"Apart form FAD FC from Djibouti who arrive on Saturday, all the others are ready for the Championship. We anticipate a very competitive Championship because all teams have beefed their squads, ” he said.
