The Cameroonian FA president was fined for “violating the principles of sportsmanship”

As expected, Morocco are in the AFCON finals, their first since 2004. After 120 minutes of poor display from both Atlas Lions and Nigeria, Bono saved two penalties and gave Morocco a chance to win their first AFCON since 1976. On the other side are losers, and Cameroon are among them. The Indomitable Lions were eliminated by Morocco in the quarter finals but their president was a sore loser. Cameroonian football president Samuel Eto’o wasn’t’ happy with a defeat and he will be punished for it.

Former Barcelona forward has been given a four-game ban for misconduct during his side’s loss to Morocco at the Africa Cup of Nations. The Confederation of African Football’s (CAF) disciplinary board found Eto’o, 44, guilty of “violating the principles of sportsmanship” and has sanctioned him with a ban and 20,000 dollars. On their part, the Cameroonian football federation claims that the decision “lacks any explicit justification” and pledged its “unwavering support” to its president. CAF was investigating ‘unacceptable’ behavior during quarterfinal games between Morocco and Cameroon as well as Nigeria and Algeria.

Eto’o was seen gesturing in the direction of the Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) president Moroc Fouzi Lekjaa during the game, with CAF president Patrice Motsepe also in the vicinity. It is believed that this was his ‘crime’ as CAF didn’t specify Eto’o’s actions in the statement.

Fecafoot reaffirms its unwavering support for its President and its commitment to respecting the principles governing a credible disciplinary justice system” reads the Cameroonian FA statement.
