Furthermore, the long-serving captain, Vincent Aboubakar, was also dropped from the 28-man squad for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations without a proper explanation for the shocked public
Cameroon's elimination by DR Congo from the 2026 FIFA World Cup African playoffs was just the beginning of a turbulent period for their Football Federation and the Indomitable Lions. And last night, an earthquake followed!
Namely, days after being re-elected as the president of the Cameroonian Football Federation (FECAFOOT), the legendary Samuel Eto'o made a shocking move, sacking the head coach Marc Brys!
The tactician's dismissal would normally not have been unusual, given the poor result in the WC qualifiers, but firing a manager 20 days before the start of the Africa Cup of Nations?!
Nevertheless, Eto'o's dispute with the Belgian strategist went on practically ever since he sat on the Indomitable Lions' bench, so the former Barcelona striker probably just waited for a perfect chance to get rid of the 63-year-old.
In a statement announced following the decision, Brys was accused of "active collaboration with unknown individuals within FECAFOOT" and "professional failure," as BBC reports.
However, that wasn't the last of the shocking news coming from this West African country. Namely, the new manager and Brys' former assistant, David Pagou, announced the 28-man squad for the upcoming AFCON without superstars like Andre Onana and the second all-time leading scorer and the long-serving captain, Vincent Aboubakar!

Apart from the custodian and the striker, the super-experienced Michael Ngadeu-Ngadjui was also dropped from the squad, while Napoli's Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa is injured.
The reasons behind this Pagou's baffling decision are still unknown, though it wouldn't surprise anyone if Eto'o had something to do with it. This way, the Indomitable Lions' new boss, without explanation, dropped three players with a combined 234 national team appearances, who were all regulars under Brys.
In the end, after an apparently false peace, the situation around the Cameroon national team is once again burning, the atmosphere is tense, and their AFCON ambitions are at serious risk at the moment.
