The course is part of FKF’s initiative to ensure that there are more qualified coaches handling teams from grassroot to professional level
A total number of 25 Kenyan coaches on Monday 16 October began their CAF A coaching courses in Nairobi at the Kenya Institute of Special Education (KISE).
After opening up invitations for coach applications back in May, and whose deadline passed on 6 October 2023, the coaches, several among them active in the FKF Premier League, officially began the process expected to span over a period of six months.
The comprehensive course, which will consist of 17 modules, represents the second-highest level of certification offered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF), with the prestigious CAF Pro License standing as the highest attainable certification on the continent.
It is also the first CAF A licensing course to be offered in Kenya since the current football administration assumed office.
“We made a decision that the best teacher is the one that’s educated and that's why we've invested so much in coaching, refereeing, administrators and instructor courses,” FKF Vice President Doris Petra told FKF- Media on Monday. “By now you can see all instructors are Kenyan and they have been trained through FKF.”
Among the coaches who are part of the course are Harambee Starlets’ head coach Beldine Odemba, Ulinzi Stars’ Anthony Kimani, assistant Posta Rangers coach Bernard Kawinzi, and CAF instructor Jackline Juma among others.
“I am a part of the few coaches who have come up through the ranks and to follow the pathway that has been laid down by CAF,” Kimani said while reflecting on his coaching progression. “I started with my CAF D, went to CAF C then B. Now I have the opportunity to do CAF A.”
FKF partnership with KEFWA has played a key role in ensuring the elevation of football in the country through combined efforts and shared vision.
“If the FKF is empowering players and having those activities that can empower players and make coaches grow can make the game grow as KEFWA, we can give this a 100% support and I believe we are heading in the right direction,” remarked KEFWA President James Situma.
The course is under the tutelage of Coaches Salim Ali and Francis Kimanzi.
