Buckle up and welcome to the final lap of 2020/21 Premier League season

Reading Time: 4min | Fri. 02.04.21. | 20:15

Arsenal vs Liverpool is most definetely the fixture of the weekend but there are other interesting matches lined up as the EPL gets to the tape

The last international break of the season is behind us meaning it’s now time for the run-in. Some teams have as many as 10 matches while others have nine or eight matches. These are eight finals as far as top four and relegation are concerned.

The good news we have clocks have moved in the UK to BST meaning early kick-off is now at 2.30 pm and late kick-off at 10 pm. No more late-night matches.

Chelsea v West Brom

Gameweek 30 gets underway at Stamford Bridge where the unbeaten Thomas Tuchel welcomes Sam Allardyce. Chelsea have only conceded from one opposition in the 10 Premier League matches but this is not the best time to face a relegation-threatened side –coached by Big Sam.

Time is running out for West Brom who are 10 points from safety with only nine matches to play. They drew with Chelsea in the reverse fixture but a lot has happened since then including both sides sacking managers.

Leicester v Man City

Leicester will hope to be one of the few sides to stop Man City. Leicester’s 5-2 win over Man City earlier in the season, which now seems a lifetime ago, was a big wake-up call for Pep Guardiola whose team has been unstoppable. They recently kicked Man United out of the FA Cup and look certain to challenge for a place in the top four.

Harvey Barnes is out while James Maddison is a doubt for Leicester but Kelechi Iheanacho could be the guy to punish his former employers having scored seven goals in four appearances for the Foxes.

Man City pose a real danger to Brendan Rodgers as they have no injury news and we expect Pep to start Laporte at CB as City look forward to Champions League quarterfinals next week. City need just five wins to get back the Premier League title but must watch on Leicester who are determined to play Champions League next season.

Arsenal v Liverpool

The biggest game of the weekend is the highest-scoring tie in the Premier League. Arsenal against Liverpool at the Emirates. This game comes at the right time for both teams have been struggling this season.

Arsenal will feel this is the best time to face a wounded Liverpool while the defending champions’ recent form is an encouragement. With Bukayo Saka's availability still in doubt not sure and Emile Smith Rowe having missed Wednesday’s clash with Croatia U21, Mikel Arteta is sweating on Saturday’s starting 11 but Martin Odegaard should be available.

Liverpool are delighted to have Roberto Firmino back from injury while Diogo Jota is on form having found the net before the international break and for Portugal. This will be a slim win for Liverpool who badly need the three points.

Man United v Brighton

Man United are back at Old Trafford seeking to cement a second-place that doesn’t feel anywhere close to the top position. One of the biggest decision to be made this weekend will be who starts in goal for United between De Gea and Dean Henderson.

Martial should be fit but Rashford, Cavani and Greenwood are doubtful. Brighton hope former United striker Danny Welbeck, who has scored or assisted in back-to-back appearances can continue his form.

It’s a tricky game for Man United as Brighton has won back-to-back league games only the second time this season. They lost 3-2 at the Ammex and you could feel they didn’t deserve to lose. Either a slim win for United or draw.

Across the grounds, I think Leeds will beat Sheffield, Southampton will dismiss Burnley, Tottenham will get a win at St.James Park, Jack Grealish will inspire Villa to a win over Fulham, Everton will share spoils with Palace and West Ham will stun Wolves.
