The former Liverpool star should prove to be a valuable addition to the North London side, bringing not only plenty of quality but also a wealth of experience

Tottenham have officially secured the signing of veteran left-back Andy Robertson, who arrives on a free transfer after bringing his long spell at Liverpool to an end. The move marks the beginning of what Spurs hope will be a major rebuild following a difficult campaign that saw them narrowly avoid relegation.

Robertson becomes the first new face through the door, but he is unlikely to be the last. Tottenham are also closing in on former Bournemouth defender Marcos Senesi, who is available after his contract expired, while the club continues to pursue Brighton centre-back Jan Paul van Hecke as they strengthen their defensive options.

The Scotland international had been on the verge of joining Spurs during the January transfer window. However, Liverpool halted the move after failing to secure the return of Kostas Tsimikas from his loan spell at Roma, forcing negotiations to collapse.

Since then, Tottenham have appointed Roberto De Zerbi, and the Italian manager has fully backed the acquisition. Robertson opted to leave Anfield when his contract expired, ending a memorable Liverpool career that included 378 appearances for the Reds.

After completing the move, Robertson recorded a message for Tottenham supporters, which the club shared across its social media channels.

He said: "Hi Tottenham fans, it's me Andy Robertson here, as you can see I'm not in Glasgow, I'm in America just now preparing for the World Cup. But I just wanted to send you a message to say I cannot wait to play for you guys, I cannot wait to meet you guys and I cannot wait to play in the stadium for the first time in front of you. I'm already looking forward to next season. All the best and I'll see you soon."

De Zerbi also spoke warmly about his new signing, highlighting the qualities he expects Robertson to bring to the squad.

He said: "Andy is someone I've admired for a number of years and he will bring outstanding technical qualities, experience, leadership and mentality to our team. He is a proven winner at the highest level over a long period and is someone who can be a big player for us, both on and off the pitch. I can't wait to start working with him and seeing the positive impact he will have on everyone around him."
