AIK, through its social media handles on Friday, 5 June made the announcement by posting a 16-second video of Wilson accompanied with the words: “Stanley Wilson - still one of us!”

Wilson, who joined the Swedish top-tier outfit in the summer of 2024, had been expected to see out his previous contract on 31 August 2027, but has now been added three more years, a gesture that comes on the back of his impressive performances for the club this season.

“It is fantastic that we have agreed on a contract extension with Stanley,” AIK Football's Head of recruitment, Miika Takkula, said on Friday. “He has surprised everyone with his development during the season, and has already taken a role in the team. Above all, he works hard every day on the training pitch, and I look forward to seeing what the future has to offer.”

Having failed to fully break into AIK’s first team during the first half of the 2025 season, Wilson has a year later been a revelation for the club, starting in all 10 of his side’s league (Allsvenskan) matches this season, while providing two assists from his newly-found left-back position.

Initially identified as a central midfielder, Wilson has been one of the key pieces for the club's new head coach, José Riveiro, who was impressed by the 19-year-old’s ability during the team’s pre-season camps in Benidorm and Estepona in February this year.

Wilson’s performances this season have seen him gain plaudits all over the globe, with his name being linked with top European clubs like Ajax and Brighton and Hove Albion.

In a piece done by football analyst Bence Bocsák, Wilson, a former Kariobangi Sharks midfielder, was described as “one of the best progressive passers playing outside Europe’s top five leagues at the moment,” noting that the youngster was “very gifted technically, and so calm under pressure.”

It is those traits that saw him capture the eyes of AIK when he did his trials in Marbella, Spain in January 2024, and now evidently stand as the reason the club has jumped quickly to secure his contract, perhaps sensing greater pursuit.

During the first half of the 2025 season, Wilson was most often in the squad for AIK's men's team in Allsvenskan, but could not get the necessary playing time.

In a bid to continue his development in the best possible way, the youngster was loaned out to AIK Football's partner club, Enköpings SK, in the autumn of 2025.

There were a total of nine matches and one goal, during his six months in Division 1 Norra.

Wilson is currently with the national team - Harambee Stars - and played all minutes of their 1-1 draw with Lesotho on Thursday 4 June at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.
