Muchiti was presented to the Kakamega High Court on Tuesday, 3 March 2026, accused of attacking Silas on Tuesday, 3 February 2026, at around 8 PM in Masiakali Village, Kakamega County.
Silas succumbed to his injuries a day later, on Wednesday, 4 February 2026. The offence was committed contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code.
Muchiti had reportedly gone into hiding following the attack but was later arrested and presented to court. The High Court subsequently authorised the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to detain him for 14 days to allow detectives to record witness statements, obtain the postmortem report, and carry out a psychiatric evaluation to determine his fitness to stand trial.
Appearing before Hon. Alice Bett on Tuesday, 3 March, Muchiti denied the charge and is set to be detained until Monday, 16 March 2026, when the court will rule on whether he will be granted bail.
The case is being handled by Assistant Director of Public Prosecutions Lazarus Sirtuy.
Silas Abung'ana suffered severe head injuries after allegedly being struck with a blunt object, which caused a blood clot in his brain. He passed away shortly before midnight on Wednesday, 4 February, while receiving treatment at Kakamega County General Hospital.
The tragedy has plunged the club, Abung'ana’s family, and the wider football community into deep mourning. Club chairman Cleophas ‘Toto’ Shimanyula made an emotional appeal for justice.
“This is a great loss to us as a club. I appeal to the government to ensure that the person responsible is brought to justice,” Shimanyula said.
Abung'ana joined Kakamega Homeboyz in August 2025 and quickly became a key player under head coach Patrick Odhiambo.
He had previously featured for Shabana FC, Gucha Stars, Zoo FC, and MCF, helping Shabana earn promotion to the FKF Premier League in 2023 and later guiding Gucha Stars to promotion to the National Super League (NSL) for the 2025/26 season before transferring to Homeboyz.
He was laid to rest on Saturday, 21 February 2026, at his parents’ home in Kakamega County. In a gesture of support, club chairman Shimanyula pledged to fund the education of the deceased’s son up to the highest level and offered employment to the widow at his company.
