Giants of European and world football are increasingly getting involved in NBA projects, so we might soon see a basketball section of Milan or the Parisian team in action

In recent days, NBA executives, led by Commissioner Adam Silver, have been touring Europe in search of partners for a new project. Envoys from the world’s top basketball league have met with representatives of Real Madrid, Galatasaray, and high-ranking British officials, and by all accounts, this is only the beginning of what the NBA is planning on the Old Continent.

Adam Silver and others expected that the mere involvement of the Royal Club would attract other major teams to the basketball conversation, and it seems this move has caught the attention of some football giants as well.

According to the reputable Gazzetta dello Sport, a true revolution in the basketball world may be on the horizon—AC Milan might soon launch a basketball section! Yes, you heard that right—the club with seven Champions League titles could soon be playing under the rim too.

The idea is being pushed by the club’s American owners, RedBird Capital. The New York-based firm acquired the famed Italian club in 2022 and believes it’s time to move to the next level—not limiting their ambitions to football alone.

Additionally, Gazzetta reports that the NBA is very interested in having Milan on its map, and the presence of Olimpia Milano is not seen as a hindrance. If this comes to pass, it would be a true shake-up of the European basketball scene. There has also been talk for some time now that other famous football clubs, like Paris Saint-Germain, could establish their own basketball divisions.

Milan in basketball might sound unnatural, but we've seen stranger things in sports—so why not the Rossoneri with a basketball?

Of course, one shouldn't ignore the fact that the NBA is also keeping an eye on existing EuroLeague clubs like Fenerbahce and Valencia, and they’re counting on convincing Barcelona if Real Madrid gives the green light. Meanwhile, Alba Berlin, which recently dropped out of the elite competition, has reportedly already expressed a clear desire to compete under the NBA’s umbrella.
