Stefan Lainer's illness has been discovered early, and he has good chance of healing

It is shocking news that Borussia Monchengladbach reported on Thursday morning: Stefan Lainer is seriously ill.

The 30-year-old right-back was "diagnosed with lymph node cancer during medical examinations," Borussia said in a press release. The Austrian international has to "undergo several months of therapy" for treatment. According to the club's statement, Lainer will also be "out for several months."

According to the doctors, the disease was discovered very early. It is "very easy to treat with medication and curable. There is a high probability that health will then be completely restored and a normal life, including professional sports, will be possible," it says.

Roland Virkus, Borussia's sporting director, offered all the support to their player and the Lainer family.

"We will do everything to ensure that Stevie receives the best possible treatment and wish him and his family a lot of strength and optimism in the fight against this disease."

Borussia Monchengladbach and Stefan Lainer asked for their privacy to be respected in these difficult moments. Medical details about the treatment and the healing process are not published.

The former Red Bull Salzburg defender joined Borussia in 2019 and has another year on his contract. He represented his country in 38 games - and we hope he plays many more games.
