National Super League side SS Assad 2023-24 season has received a huge boost after the Sea Lions secured a sponsorship deal with a mining firm worth KSH 3,000,000.

Assad, the only second tier club from Kwale County, has been struggling financially since their promotion to the toughest league in Kenya two seasons ago.

Simba Gee battled to a 2-2 draw in their league opener away to Mully Children Family FC further fueling the sponsors urge of pumping in money at the NSL ambitious club.

Finally, after extensive talks that culminated on Wednesday, the club and Base Titanium representatives Dr. Melba Wassuna and Ali Masemo on Thursday put public the partnership at The Red Cross Office, Mvindeni that will see the mining firm giants pump a package of Ksh 3 million to The Lion of Ukunda per season.

Speaking at the launch, Base External Affairs Manager Wassuna assured that the firm will continue collaborating with the Ali Mwachaunga coached side in supporting the team to realize their dream of gracing the Football Kenya Federation Premier League.

"Through our dedicated support SS Assad has now been registering impressive results in the NSL since the players are motivated, we promise to support the team and even call upon all stakeholders to come on board and have a mega fundraiser for the team to achieve their goal of playing in top flight league," she said.

On his part, Kwale County deputy governor Chirema Kombo pledged county government's commitment of giving Ukunda Showground a face-lift so that the county can host high profiled sporting activities.

He also called upon all stakeholders to build a brand of SS Assad that will attract a large fan base.

"If SS Assad builds a strong and supportive fan base, it will easily raise funds through sales of team merchandise, therefore, I call upon all Kwale County residents to support Assad because it is the only team in this region plying trade in the NSL," offered the county administrator.

Speaking at the same event, SS Assad Chairman Shukuran Kuzi thanked the County government of Kwale and Base Titanium for supporting the team and through the support Simba Gee will achieve its aim of gracing FKFPL.

Assad host their first home match of the new campaign this weekend as they settle scores against debutants Rainbow FC.
