Unbeaten at home all season and boasting the league’s best defensive record, Porto enter the final day as strong favourites against a Santa Clara side that has struggled badly

League champions Porto will look to finish their title-winning campaign on a high when they host Santa Clara on Saturday at the Estádio do Dragão.

Unbeaten at home all season and boasting the league’s best defensive record, Porto enter the final day as strong favourites against a Santa Clara side that has struggled badly on the road and failed to score against the Dragons earlier this season.

Porto head into the fixture having won three of their last five matches across all competitions, although they suffered a disappointing 3-1 defeat away to AVS Futebol SAD recently.

During their previous five outings, they scored six goals while conceding four. Defensively, they remain the league’s strongest side, allowing only 18 goals throughout the campaign.

Their home record has been exceptional, with 13 wins and three draws from 16 league games at the Dragão this season overall.

Francesco Farioli’s side continue relying heavily on their disciplined defensive structure and efficient attacking transitions. Samu Aghehowa remains Porto’s leading scorer with 13 league goals, while Gabri Veiga has contributed eight assists during an impressive campaign creatively.

Porto will still miss several important players, including Ivan Perez, David Prpic, Andre Oliveira and Luuk de Jong.

Aghehowa and Adrian Miranda are also unavailable, slightly reducing attacking depth entering this final league fixture against Santa Clara.

Santa Clara arrive with mixed momentum but encouraging recent performances.

They have recorded two wins, two draws and two defeats from their last six matches, scoring eight goals while conceding nine.

Their most recent result was a solid 2-0 home victory over Nacional Madeira, following a competitive 2-2 draw away against Arouca. They also defeated Braga 2-1 recently, highlighting improved attacking confidence entering the season finale despite remaining inconsistent defensively throughout recent weeks overall.

Away from home, however, Santa Clara have struggled badly throughout the campaign. They have managed only two away league victories all season and continue averaging below one goal per game domestically.

Their 32 league goals represent the fourth-lowest attacking return in Liga Portugal.

Gabriel Silva and Vinicius Lopes are currently their joint leading scorers with six goals apiece.

Midfielder Pedro Ferreira remains sidelined, limiting midfield options against the strongest defensive side in the division entering this difficult encounter.

Recent meetings strongly favour Porto heading into Saturday’s contest. The Dragons won the reverse fixture 1-0 away from home in January and remain unbeaten across their previous six matches against Santa Clara.

Porto have won four of those encounters, while Santa Clara have failed to register a single victory during that period. Three of the last four meetings also produced fewer than three total goals, reinforcing expectations surrounding another controlled Porto performance defensively against limited attacking opposition away from home.

Key Pointers;

  • Porto won the reverse fixture 1-0 away from home in January
  • Porto has conceded the fewest goals in Liga Portugal this season (18)
  • Santa Clara has the 4th-lowest scoring record in the league (32 goals)
  • Porto is unbeaten in their last 15 home league matches

Even with the title already secured, Porto should dominate possession, territory and defensive control throughout this final match. Santa Clara’s weak away attack makes it difficult imagining them seriously threatening Porto’s organised backline at the Dragão.

Prediction; Porto wins and BTTS: No
