Leopards enjoyed the biggest fans' turn out last season and the club faithful once again turned out in good numbers on Sunday
FKF Premier League side, AFC Leopards, collected a total of Ksh 615,700 from ticket sales on Sunday during their match against FC Talanta, the club has announced.
Ingwe started the season with a 0-0 draw against the Ken Kenyatta-coached side and had a sizeable crowd supporting them for what was largely a lethargic show at the Nyayo National Stadium.
On the financial front, however, the club managed to pick up what can be termed a decent sum in this era where match attendance is at an all-time low. The club sold 153 VIP tickets and 2849 ordinary ones, collecting a total of Ksh 615,700.
Meanwhile, Leopards coach Tom Juma expressed his disappointment at the result against Talanta and admitted that they battled fitness issues in the game.
"We are lagging behind in terms of fitness, and it was clear in the game because our energy levels dropped towards the end of the game. It is hard to predict when we will be at 100%, but the thing here is to just keep working and improve in the areas we think are still not perfect. Our opponents (Talanta) have played a lot of games, and you could tell their fitness levels were high."
The Leopards will be back in action on Friday with a match against KCB at the Moi International Sports Centre in Kasarani.
FKF PL newbies Shabana collected almost a similar amount for their match against Murang’a Seal on Sunday in Homabay. The match, which ended in a 1-0 win for Muranga, was well attended, with fans traveling from across the country to watch the Kisii-based club make a comeback into the top-flight after 17 years.
