Little-known community side Bakor Bakery FC, fondly referred to as BB Bread, is reaping both on and off the pitch after their stunning run in the 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup, with the club confirming a significant surge in sales following their giant-killing exploits.

Plying their trade in the Nairobi East Regional League Zone B, BB Bread have become the competition’s ultimate underdog story.

Their journey began with a shock result on Saturday, 8 February, when they stunned 12-time champions AFC Leopards in the Round of 64.

They held their illustrious opponents to a dramatic 2-2 draw in regulation time before holding their nerve to secure a 4-3 victory on penalties.

What many dismissed as a one-off upset soon proved otherwise.

Earlier this month, BB Bread delivered an even bigger statement, edging record 21-time league champions Gor Mahia 1-0 to continue their dream run and firmly announce their arrival on the national stage.

But beyond the headlines and results, the impact has been deeply felt off the pitch, particularly for the club’s sponsors.

Club CEO Philip Gitonga revealed that the team’s performances have translated into tangible business success, with sales rising significantly thanks to the newfound exposure.

“The sales have significantly increased thanks to the exposure. It has been a good ride for our sponsors; they have truly gotten value for their money,” Gitonga said during the draw.

The success has also injected fresh belief into a long-term vision, with the club already thinking beyond the current campaign.

“The discussion now is a 10-year project. We are in the first year, and we have nine more years to go. They are excited and hoping to make it a model club that people can emulate. It is just a step in the right direction,” he added.

On the pitch, the fairy tale is far from over.

BB Bread have now set their sights on another heavyweight challenge against Kenya Police FC, the reigning FKF Premier League champions, in what promises to be another defining moment in their campaign.

“This is another exciting fixture, another one to motivate the boys. Police FC are the current champions, so we expect a tough match,” Gitonga noted.

“The mood in camp is great. The boys are psyched up, and now that they are aware of this draw, it is even more motivating to them. Every game we turn up for, we ensure we are 100 per cent ready,” he continued.

Beyond results, the tournament has also served as a platform for player exposure, with several BB Bread players already attracting interest from bigger clubs.

“Teams have attracted some interest in our players, which is a good thing. The Cup has really helped expose the talent we have,” he said.

As they prepare for yet another test, BB Bread have refused to set limits on their ambitions.

“How far can we not go?” Gitonga posed.
