The Argentine, whose future has been the subject of intense speculation, has all but revealed where he wants to continue his career
Julian Alvarez missed a golden opportunity in yesterday's Argentina victory that secured their place in the World Cup knockout stage. No one in the Albiceleste camp seemed too bothered by it, but after the words the star striker delivered in the mixed zone at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Atletico Madrid have been left seriously shaken.
The club's hierarchy is probably already holding emergency meetings and preparing a crisis-management strategy. Because Alvarez said exactly what Atletico supporters did not want to hear, sending shockwaves across Spain, Europe, and the football world.
"I can't hide, nor can I pretend that I don't want to be clear; I always try to be honest," the Argentine began before delivering the bombshell: "I've spoken with people at Atletico, and I think it's best for everyone if I leave. I want to fulfill my dream."
"I think the best thing for everyone is a transfer."

It is no secret what that dream is — wearing the Barcelona shirt.
At the end of May, Barcelona reportedly submitted an official €100 million offer for Alvarez, after which Atletico launched a series of mixed messages. First, officials at the Metropolitano denied that any offer had been received.
Then they mocked the reports by joking that they wanted Lamine Yamal in return and would offer four tickets to a Bad Bunny concert, an annual subscription to Spanish newspaper ABC, and a bag of sunflower seeds.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid further fueled speculation with reports of a supposed €150 million bid for Alvarez, while Atlético continued to insist that the Argentine was untouchable, that he would remain a key figure at the club for years to come, and that his contract contains a €500 million release clause.
Now, Alvarez has made life significantly more complicated for the club that paid Manchester City €75 million for him two years ago. His comments have handed Barcelona enormous leverage in any future negotiations because Atletico now have a player who has openly stated that he wants to leave.
The Madrid club can choose to play hardball and even sideline a player whose contract runs until 2030 and ranks among the most lucrative in the squad. However, all signs point to Atletico eventually having to take a more pragmatic approach and attempt to negotiate an acceptable transfer fee with Barcelona.

During his two seasons at Atletico, Alvarez has made 106 appearances, scoring 49 goals and providing 17 assists. He has found the net against both Real Madrid and Barcelona, but now he is seeking a new challenge.
He wants to join a club that can once again give him a realistic chance of winning the Champions
