Borji takes over from former Harambee Stars assistant coach Kennedy Odhiambo, who was relieved of his duties last week following a string of underwhelming performances.

The Moroccan will be assisted by his compatriot Tarik Bendamou, who joins the technical bench as the first assistant coach.

Former Harambee Stars forward John Baraza has been retained as the second assistant coach, bringing local experience and continuity to the new-look technical setup.

The Moroccan tactician, aged 44, began his coaching journey at Renaissance Club Athletic Zemamra (RCA Zemamra), where he joined as assistant coach in 2019 before being elevated to caretaker manager later that year.

His promising start in management paved the way for a head coach role at Jeunesse Sportive Kasba Tadla in 2020, where he continued to refine his tactical approach and leadership credentials.

Borji later took charge of Club Olympique de Meknès (COD Meknès) in March 2021, albeit on a short-term basis, before joining Moghreb Atlético Tétouan (MAT) in March 2023 as assistant coach under Hicham Louissi.

Before transitioning into coaching, Borji enjoyed a notable career as a striker, turning out for several top-tier clubs, including Association Salé, Wydad Casablanca, AS FAR Rabat, OC Safi, CS Hammam-Lif (Tunisia), Difaa El Jadida, Raja Beni Mellal, and Pahang FA (Malaysia) in 2013.

During his spell with FAR Rabat, he featured in CAF competitions, earning valuable continental experience that now enriches his tactical insight.

Armed with a UEFA B licence, Borji is now tasked with guiding Bandari to their first-ever FKF Premier League title, a feat that has remained elusive since the club’s promotion to the top flight in 2012.

His appointment is seen as a bold statement of intent by the Dockers’ management, eager to transform the team into genuine title contenders.

Borji’s first assignment will come during the ODM@20 Celebration Tournament, scheduled for Thursday, 9 to Friday, 10 October, where Bandari will face AFC Leopards in one of the semi-finals. The winner of the four-team tourney will pocket Ksh1 million.

Just days later, Borji will oversee his first official league fixture, coincidentally against AFC Leopards again, on Wednesday, 15 October, marking an immediate test of his tactical acumen in Kenyan football.
