The 2026 Mozzart Bet Cup will begin with round of 64 matches scheduled for the weekend of Friday,6 to Saturday, 7 February
Former FC Talanta midfielder Augustine Kuta has opened up on the motivation behind enrolling his side, Kuta Collection FC, in this season’s Mozzart Bet Cup.
Their entry is an historic first for the Nairobi-based side.
The team is set to kick off their campaign against Al Azizia on Saturday, 3 February, marking a significant step up in competition for the outfit.
Kuta Collection founder and midfield marshal, Augustine, brings a wealth of playing experience, having previously played for Nairobi City Stars, FC Talanta, Kibera Black Stars, and Equity FC.
His journey through Kenya’s competitive football landscape has shaped both his philosophy and ambitions for the team.
Speaking to Mozzart Sport ahead of their debut in the tournament, Kuta expressed confidence despite the limited window of preparation.
“This is our first time in the tournament, and it is not a bad opposition to face. We are ready for the challenge. The kickoff dates, however, caught us off guard because we had expected to have about two weeks to prepare.
We have been training, but we have also lost a number of players who joined KPL teams. Even so, one week will be enough to prepare us for the tournament,” the player-cum-entrepreneur said.
He went on to admit that the early kickoff dates disrupted their ideal training schedule but maintained optimism about the squad’s readiness.
While several players recently moved to FKF Premier League sides, Kuta believes the remaining group has enough quality and determination to compete effectively.
Beyond immediate results, Kuta emphasised that the club’s long-term vision extends further than the tournament itself.
“Our main aim at Kuta Collection is to provide talented players with a platform, especially after the transfer window has closed.
We have been around for quite some time, and this season we decided to take things to the next level by competing at a higher standard to give our players an even better platform. That is why we enrolled in the Mozzart Bet Cup,” he explained.
Traditionally, the team has relied on friendly matches within Nairobi to maintain fitness and cohesion.
However, Kuta believes that entering a structured national competition presents a different level of challenge and opportunity.
“We usually rely on friendly matches within Nairobi as part of our preparations, but this tournament allows us to push the players further and give them exposure. It also creates opportunities for them to be scouted by teams outside Nairobi,” he stated.
