Gabonese forward is not happy with the way social platforms are dealing with the issues of modern society

Even though he is not that active on the pitch lately, whether it is due to injury or malaria, Gabonese striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is active in a different way.

Following the footsteps of Arsenal's legendary number 14 - Thierry Henry, Aubameyang has deactivated his Twitter account after a bizarre rant aimed at the social media company in his final tweet.

Sportsmail reports that the Arsenal captain, who is recovering after contracting malaria, which has seen him miss the Gunners' last three games, deactivated his account last night.

Yet with his last tweet the 31-year-old Gabonese explained that 'he had not missed Twitter' and made series of criticisms, which did not make sense but suggested he took issue with the platform's handling of the issues of coronavirus, online abuse and racism.

Aubameyang posted an ironic statement.

'I ain't missed you Twitter. So we not allowed to talk about anything? 'Only football and Super League? No more talking about Covid?! Or online abuse or racism. Nice. Even Sick (without fone) I was feeling better than now with fone.

'Let me turn it off. See u.'

His decision to remove his Twitter account comes less than a week after Aubameyang confirmed on his Instagram account he had been hospitalised with malaria.

'Hey guys, thanks for all the messages and calls. Unfortunately I contracted Malaria whilst being on national team duty in Gabon a few weeks ago.' Aubameyang told his 10 million followers.

'I've spent a few days in hospital this week but I'm already feeling much better every day, thanks to the great doctors that detected and treated the virus so quickly.

'I wasn't feeling myself the last couple of weeks but will be back stronger than ever soon!'

Gunners boss Mikel Arteta is hopeful he should have his captain available for selection again soon.

'He's completely fine, we'll see how he recovers,' Arteta said last Friday. 'He wants to be back as soon as possible — that's what he said to me.'

Arsenal's next game is at home to Everton on Friday night in the Premier League before a huge Europa League semi-final tie against Villarreal - and former boss Unai Emery.

Aubameyang was not missed, score-wise, in the last Europa League match against Slavia Prague in which the Gunners won 4-0. His colleagues, especially Alexandre Lacazzete, who scored twice, were in the mood last Thursday night.
