Madira missed the opening two rounds of the season due to their players involvements with the National team
Madira Soccer Assassins head coach Francis Muhambe is targeting a perfect start to the season in the Kenya Women Premier League when they visit the Trans Nzoia Falcons at the Ndura Sports Complex in Kitale on Sunday in their first match of the season.
The Vihiga-based outfit are making their maiden top-flight appearance after clinching the FKF Women Division One Zone B title and the overall third-tier league championship last season.
Madira participation in the league was delayed following the involvement of eight of their players in the FIFA Women U20 World Cup qualifier match against Angola, which the Rising Starlets won to book a third-round matchup with Cameroon.
Muhambe, who is not new to the Assassins having guided them in the Kenya Secondary Sports Association games, is optimistic of a positive start to the season.
“We are ready to make our debut in the league, and we are going to approach the game carefully and try to minimize our mistakes and create spaces to hit them,” said Muhambe.
“Our target is to start the league on high and maintain momentum for the rest of the campaign. We may seem like underdogs in this league, but we are going to fight till the end and at least cement ourselves among the best in this competition. We are not shy of anyone, and the work we have had behind the scenes is just about to be unveiled,” said the KSSSA national boys football title winner with Ebwali Boys.
Muhambe has also decried the age limit factor that has prevented some of her young talents, aged between 14 and 15, from showcase their skills at the big stage, noting since they are ineligible for registration to be part of the Assassins squad
He called upon the Football Kenya Federation to reconsider the age limit, which he says is locking out many talented players who are ripe for league action.
The tactician will be banking on a free-scoring Valerie Nekesa and captain Jane Hato who also doubles up as Rising Starlets captain, to rally them to their first KWPL win.
