Laurent Blanc's position is precarious, but he's not the only one at fault
After the heavy defeat against PSG on Sunday night, the Bad Gones leader delivered a lengthy speech to the Lyon players after the match. It's merely the tip of the proverbial iceberg that is Olympique Lyonnais' deep crisis.
A few minutes after the final whistle and the 4-1 loss against the Parisian club, the Lyon players received a message from the northern stand. With a microphone in hand, the capo of the Bad Gones spoke to the players who stood in shame down on the pitch.
"To you, the OL squad of 2023/24. The message is addressed to those who claim to be leaders in the locker room. The message is clear: they no longer have the right to stay silent. You are the ones wearing the OL jersey. Others before you have worn and purified this jersey by giving everything for it. You don't have the right to tarnish it! Now that the transfer window is closed, the squad is here, and we only ask one thing: to be by your side. But you have to deserve it."

With this third loss in four league matches, OL are bottom of the standings with only one point on the board. Silent and in shock, Laurent Blanc's men continued to listen to the strong words spoken by the Parc Olympique Lyonnais' northern stand.
"We only ask to sing your names with love, not like we sang the names of the three little sh*ts (Malo Gusto, Castello Lukeba, and Bradley Barcola) who left our club in recent months. If we must swallow bitter pills, let it be with our heads held high. Go OL!"
Team captain Corentin Tolisso took responsibility for the loss, saying that giving a penalty away early on set the tone for a painful night.
"The team is hurting. Conceding goals on counter-attacks is horrible, especially against Paris. Those are goals we should be able to avoid. We need to do a lot of work on that. We have to do a lot better on the pitch. We felt the support of our fans despite the poor start to the season. It's up to us to do things so that they continue to support us."
Now it's time for the international break with players called up to their respective national teams (Tagliafico, Cherki, Kumbedi, etc.) before the next match against the newly promoted Le Havre on Sunday, 17 September. However, whether Blanc will still be the man in charge of OL is a doubt. Behind the scenes, several names are already circulating to succeed the 1998 World Cup winner.

Pointed out for a few weeks for a certain nonchalance and his shocking utterings to the media, Blanc seems to have used up all of his credit. New OL president Santiago Cucci spoke to the media and discussed the case of his coach, with those present noticing his solemn tone.
"When a coach doesn't have results, he is in danger. But it's not only him who is responsible. He doesn't play football, so some people have to do better on the pitch."
Early in the century, Lyon were champions of France seven times in a row. They were what PSG are now. They produced world-class players and played regularly in the UEFA Champions League. It all seems like it happened in another lifetime.
Olympique Lyonnais had not been last of Ligue 1 at the end of a matchday since the first matchday of the 1995/9 campaign.
