PSG's striker scored a brace in a 4-1 win
It took the PSG team, renovated and under the new coach, two games to get into winning mode. 0-0 and 1-1 against lower opposition like Lorient and Toulouse, but also the situation surrounding Kylian Mbappe and his contract created a mini-crisis at the start of Ligue 1. And then, when a certain agreement was in place with PSG's best player, and he came back to the first team, everything was suddenly better. After scoring a brace in a 3-1 win last week over Lens, the French international scored two more goals in a 4-1 thrashing of Lyon: PSG: Olympique Lyon 4-1. The home team started this season terribly, with only one draw and three losses, the team is crippled with injuries, suspensions and good players who were sold during the transfer window without quality replacements.
A team without three forwards (Sarr and Barcola sold, Alexandre Lacazette suspended) along with injured defender Dejan Lovren could hardly do anything against Mbappe-Asensio-Dembele attacking trio. Presnel Kimpembe, Nuno Mendes, Nordi Mukiele and Kang-in Lee were hardly missed by the overcrowded PSG team. So when the guests took the lead after only four minutes from the penalty kick, nobody was surprised. Mbappe’s best mate Hakimi doubled the lead in the 21st minute, but after that, Lyon had the best (and only) opportunity to change the game and give their fans some hope. But Italian keeper Donnarumma stepped up and made two great saves, first to Cherki in the 32nd minute and then to Tolisso three minutes later. And that was it from the home team in the first half. The guests used their chances on the other side, and Asensio, along with Mbappe (again), scored two more before the break.
PSG controlled the game and the tempo in the second half as well. Dembele could have scored his first goal with the new team but hit the bar. Then Zaire-Emery made a mistake in the penalty area, and VAR intervened to give a penalty to the home team, and Tolisso scored a consolation goal.
