The Spaniard praised the mentality of his players after a 3-1 win over Manchester United

It was the victory Arsenal needed. A great rival, a strong opponent who finished third in the Premier League last season, and a team which has a terrible away from (10 games, no wins). But it didn’t came easily. Manchester United had its chances against the Gunners. They took the lead from the first shot in Arsenal’s direction, they had two great chances during the 1-1 score, and they scored a possible match winner in the 89th minute, which was ruled out as offside. The Gunners never gave up and Rice’s shot in the 96th minute, with help from a deflection gave Arsenal the win.

And it was that sire determination and a will to win against the great rival which coach Mikel Arteta liked the most.

"We all worked so hard and planned everything for moments like this. These moments will stick with us, with the crowd so connected to the team with the big history of these matches, it's great. The will, the determination of the team, that will to win and go and go and go, I'm so proud of them. A team needs different tools to win football matches, and the capacity to react. We did that in the first half and that set the tone and brought some calmness to the team" said Arteta to Sky Sports after the match.

Off course, special praise was reserved for the match winner Declan Rice. His 96th minute goal gave Arsenal the lead before Gabriel Jesus confirmed the victory a few minutes later.

“A tremendous performance from Rice. As a holding midfielder, how he needs to dominate his area, to break up play. He was really dominant. And then he produced a magic moment to win us the game. You need to have that quality, that composure and he had it. He's a great kid. A good mixture between being extremely demanding with everybody, himself and banter and being around the boys in a humble way. When you see the technical ability he has and how he delivers in these moments... when he shoots from range, with both feet, and he has the timing with his runs. The position will determine how many goals he scores but he's got the ability to do that" said Arteta.

Since the start of the season, Havertz, also a notable new name apart from Rice is struggling to find his true form. In this game, he missed a sitter and then tried to force a penalty, but VAR overturned referee’s decision. But the Spaniard did as any other coach would do – he supported his player, and even used his wife’s example to explain the problems.

"I said to him yesterday: things are hard at the beginning. When I met my wife, at the beginning it was hard to conquer her. It was hard, I had to try and message her, and go, and go. And at the end when she says 'yes we can be together' it's beautiful" Arteta told Sky Sports.
