Arsenal boss wants to break the bad statistical data associated with the club's title bid

At the start of the new year, the Gunners are at the top of the Premier League. Big achievement. But looking at the strength of this year’s team, not a surprise. In fact, Arsenal was expected to be here in January 2026. The problem is, they have been here before, and it didn’t end well. The Gunners have not won the Premier League title on the five previous occasions they have begun the new year top of the table. But as always, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta is full of determination and optimism at the start of the New Year and wants to get rid of those bad statistics.

Let’s break it. I think that’s what they transmit every single day when they’re with us, in training and every match. You can see their desire. You can see the energy that they put in, how much they want it. And that’s what we need. There’s still five months to go. And take it day by day. Enjoy that process of being where we are and go for it” said the Spaniard ahead of the game with Bournemouth.

Since winning the title for the last time in 2004, the Gunners started years 2008, 2014, 2016, 2022 and 2023 top without still being there come late May. Asked what he we wished he could do differently in 2022 and 2023, Arsenal boss replied:

Win more games, that’s it. So I think from January to January, we won more points again in the last three years than any other team in this league. So we need more points, that’s it. We need to win more games and be better. That’s the only way. It’s a privilege to be here and be where we are” he said.

As it happens, the Cherries are known for being the team which wins against title favorites and Arsenal fits the bill. Bournemouth beat Mikel Arteta’s side twice in the Premier League last season — 2–1 in London and 2–0 at the Vitality Stadium. But now they are in crisis and without a win in 10 consecutive wins.
