Arsene Wenger: 'I can help Arsenal'

The famous Gunners manager offered his help to the potential new owners

The Arsenal takeover is getting momentum. The Gunners Legend Arsene Wenger, their longest manager and the architect of three Premier League titles and seven FA Cups offered his help if the former players Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira take over the club, with a financial help from the Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek.

Of course, the takeover story is just that– a media story. It’s not real at the moment, but still, Wenger want’s to be in the wagon. The whole thing started after the Super League blew up in the face of club owners, especially Americans who are in charge of Arsenal and Liverpool. The fans don’t like the American billionaire owner Stan Kroenke (they actually never did), and this whole Super League thing just brought the old hatred to the spotlight again.

And then, Swedish billionaire Daniel Ek, the owner of Spotify, just tweeted that he would like to buy Arsenal, and when the names of Gunners legends Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira were thrown into the mix, here we are. But, tweets don’t buy clubs, money does. But billionaires also have money, and they also have pride (sort of). So, the whole idea was rejected on the spot.

„In recent days we have noted media speculation regarding a takeover of Arsenal football club. We remain 100% committed to Arsenal, are not selling any stake in the club, have not received any offer and will not entertain any offer. Our ambition for Arsenal remains to compete to win the biggest trophies in the game and our focus remains on improving our competitiveness on the pitch to achieve this“ said Kroenke in a statement on Tuesday.

And Arsen Wenger is fully aware of that. While speaking to beIn Sports, the current FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development felt that the best deals are done in private, not on Twitter.

'I like the fact that former people of the club run the club. You have two examples in the football world, former players who run a club like at Bayern or big investors who buy a club like Man City. I personally, as a football man, like the fact that former Arsenal players take over and have an advice. For the project, the best deals are made when nobody knows about it and you come out and it is done. Once you announce things, you have a mountain to climb. Nobody wants to give in. It is better you do your deal and when it is done, you come out and then take people you want. I will always support Arsenal, and if I can help Arsenal I will do it as well in any way. After that, I am happy with my life as it is today“ said Wenger.

Of course, if the Spotify owner is serious, he would have to, for starters, get in touch with Kroenke’s team and test their wish to keep Arsenal in their hands. They don’t need the money (Kroenke also owns American football team LA Rams), but they like the money. If any takeover is about to happen, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp and Patrick Vieira will need some advice, and who is better than Wenger? The Frenchman was very very shrewd in the transfer market during his 22 years at the Highbury and he rarely overspend players. His love for the Gunners is unquestionable.

„I always put Arsenal first. I sacrificed the best years of my life in my career to help this club, to get out of building a new stadium and paying it back without any money from anybody. We didn't go out and say "we need money", we did it with the quality of our work and we maintained the club at the top. I was also criticized, which you have to accept when you are in a public job. But nobody would question the fact that I did it genuinely and with a desire to what is good for the club. After, of course I made mistakes, I don't deny that“ said Wenger.
