Arsenal without European Football for the first time in 25 years
Reading Time: 3min | Sun. 23.05.21. | 20:31
Gunners finished eight, one point lower than the rivals Spurs, who have qualified for the Conference League
After all that has happened this season, it was bound to finish this way – Arsenal are out of the European League by a point, and their greatest rivals Tottenham are going to the newly formed Conference League.
After 25 years, the Gunners will play only the domestic league, as they won against Brighton with another brace from Nicolas Pepe, but too many mistakes this season meant that they were expecting too many results in the last round to go their way. Apart from their own win, they needed fails from both Tottenham and Everton. The Toffies were clear loosers from the Man City match 5-0), but the Spurs were the ones to have the last laugh – they managed a rather surprise win over Champions League bound Leicester 4-2 and left their rivals in the dirt.
20 - No player has been involved in more goals in all competitions for Arsenal this season than Nicolas Pepe (15 goals, 5 assists). Form.

Arsenal managed to win against inferior opposition, something that they have failed to do so many times during the season, and until the 74th minute, they were in Europe, as Spurs were loosing in Leicester. But, own goal from Kasper Schmeichel changed Arsenal’s fortune, before Bale’s double sealed the fate of both Foxes and the Gunners.

As it this failure was not enough for the club, Josh Kroenke, Arsenal owner’s son attended this match for the first time in over a year, only to see protests against his family outside and inside the club. Josh has been attempting to smooth things over in person this weekend. He visited Arsenal’s training ground on Saturday and addressed Mikel Arteta and his players, speaking about the importance of unity and his vision for the future.

This failure of season is over, but a lot of work is ahead of Kroenke, who needs some remedy time with the fans, Edu, who will have to reshape the squad for the next season, and Arteta, who is lucky not to be fired.
