Arsenal still the favorite for all four trophies

Even after a disappointing display in Germany, the Gunners are favorites in the second leg

Despite being criticized for their style of play—considered by many to be decadent because of the controversial corners from which they score many goals—the Gunners remain the bookmakers’ favorites. In fact, Arsenal are seen as contenders for all four trophies by the end of the season. In the Premier League, they are tipped to take the throne as successors to Liverpool, especially after Manchester City dropped points recently.

In the UEFA Champions League, even though Bayern Munich are already close to the quarter-finals after their 6–1 demolition of Atalanta BC in Bergamo, the London club still leads the betting odds to win the biggest UEFA prize. The North London side can also claim silverware in the two remaining English competitions: the FA Cup, where they have reached the quarter-finals, and the EFL Cup, where they will face Manchester City at Wembley Stadium on March 22 for the first trophy of the English season.

For years, Arsenal have been synonymous with a team that tends to ruin in the final two months what they build during most of the season. Standing in their way to the Champions League quarter-finals is Bayer 04 Leverkusen. The first game finished 1-1, mostly due to a very, very soft penalty for the Gunners. Still, the result is a very favorable one ahead of the second leg at the Emirates. Prior to that, Arsenal struggled to defeat third-division side Mansfield Town F.C. 2–1 in the FA Cup Round of 16. Mikel Arteta fielded a mixed lineup without several key players. The end justified the means—they advanced to the next round and rested some of their main starters.

After the slip-up against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. (2–2) at the end of last month, Arsenal have recorded four consecutive wins in all competitions. Good news for the Spanish coach is that he will be able to count on William Saliba, Leandro Trossard, and Riccardo Calafiori. In England, people are already talking about the possibility of four trophies for Arsenal in the next two and a half months, but Mikel Arteta says he isn’t thinking about it.

We’re not talking about it. I don’t know what the players talk about when I’m not there. We all know how important every competition is. We’ll be switching competitions every three days. So far we’ve handled it well, but we have to keep going” said Arteta.
