Arsenal legends’ plea to Arteta: Sign Toney!

There are many Gunners fans who believe that their club needs another proper striker to attack the title
Mikel Arteta thinks about one thing, former Arsenal players think about the other. Before the start of the season, the Spaniard realized that he didn’t like his keeper’s footwork and decided that he should bring another goalie. He ended up taking Brentford’s keeper David Raya on a season long loan and selected him for Everton and Tottenham games. He is currently thinking should he or should he not change his keepers during the games, but other former Arsenal players think he should look at the opposite part of the field – the attack. And they have a specific name in mind – Ivan Toney.
🚨 Arsenal are ready to step up their interest in England striker Ivan Toney in January. Brentford value the 27-year-old at £60m.

Former Newcastle striker has returned to training after serving half of his eight month ban for breaching strict FA betting rules and would be available in January, but the Gunners would have to pay around 60 million euros for his services (The Bees brought him for 5 million from Peterborough in 2020). The Gunners do have striker options with Eddie Nketiah and Gabriel Jesus but even the die-hard fans knows that it’s not enough, if they are to really push Manchester City for the title. And former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson thinks that Ivan is an ideal candidate.
“I've always said it from day one - Eddie Nketiah is not going to win you the Premier League. You need a proper centre forward. I'm not blaming Nketiah because they drew 2-2 with Tottenham but with 32 games to go and all the Champions League games they have to play, I don't think he takes them to the next level. I don't even think Gabriel Jesus takes them to the next level. 'Only Ivan Toney is available for them in January - there aren't many centre forwards around in the world. They're a dying breed. Toney is a good player - he can hold the ball up, he's good in the air. Arsenal might have to go for him. But there are not a million centre forwards around” Merson said to Sky Sports.
That 2-2 game against Tottenham also prompted another legend to speak of Ivan Toney, after Gabriel Jesus missed a great chance to defeat the Spurs.
“I look at that and totally agree. Ivan Toney would be absolutely perfect for Arsenal” said Ray Parlor.
Former Gunners defender just said what he’s been saying all along. In July this year, when the transfer window was still very much open, he again advocated for Toney.
“I do think we need that extra striker. If Gabriel Jesus gets injured again, is Eddie going to be able to come in and do well enough in the Champions League? I know that we could play with a false nine, but I would like that security of having an out-and-out striker. The problem is, who is available? Who can Arsenal bring in that position? If the circumstances were different, I would have gone for Ivan Toney all day long. I think he would have been ideal for Arsenal. He reminds me a little bit of Ian Wright” said Parlour.
