Both clubs are apparently interested at the Gunners keeper
When it was needed, Arsenal coach Mikel Arteta went out and bought a new keeper – Aaron Ramsdale. Eyebrows were raised when he gave 30 million pounds to a keeper who was relegated with both Bournemouth and Sheffield United, but the Spanish tactician thought he was better than Bent Leno and nobody could change his mind. And now, when he suddenly decided that his number 1 keeper is the reason Arsenal is not playing the way he wants, he is keen to replace him, and nobody can change his mind.

When the Gunners signed David Raya from Brentford on a season-long loan, many believed that this was just a way to put additional pressure on Ramsdale, but in Arteta’s mind, Raya was here to stay. And it finally happened on Sunday, when the Spaniard took his place between the sticks and kept the clean sheet against Everton (0-1). And now other clubs are monitoring. Aaron Ramsdale. The quickness with whom Arteta installed his countryman over his hand-picked first keeper suggests that, currently, it’s Raya’s job to lose and not the other way around. And Chelsea, along with Bayern Munich, are taking interest.
Ramsdale signed a new contract in May 2023, but there are concerns about his performances since he faced nine shots on target and conceded four goals, a percentage of just over 50%. According to Daily Mail, Ramsdale’s situation is already interesting to a number of teams, with Chelsea and Bayern Munich among those. The Blues signed Robert Sanchez from Brighton, but they would also like Ramsdale (if he becomes available), while Bayern finally realized that Manuel Neuer would soon be 38 years old and that they need a proper, long-term replacement. The possible sale will hardly happen in January, but if Raya remains the main option by June 2024 and somebody offers 50+ million euros to Arsenal…
One of the reasons for benching Ramsdale was that Raya is better with his feet and Arteta was so keen to justify his decision that he even admitted thinking about a revolution in football – to replace keepers doing the game!
"I cannot have two players like this in one position and not play them. David has tremendous qualities like Aaron has, we have to use them. It is like this. I am a really young manager. I've only had three-and-a-half years in the job, and I have few regrets. One was that on two occasions, I felt, after 60 minutes and 85 minutes, in two games, to change the keeper in that moment. But I didn't do it. I didn't have the courage to do it. But I'm able to take off a winger, or a striker, or put on a central defender and hold that result. We drew those games, and I was so unhappy. Tell me: why not do it? Why not? We have all the qualities in another goalkeeper to do something when something is happening and you want to change momentum. Do it. It's a regret that I had” he said after the Everton game.
